Breath Awareness Meditation

Tuesday’s from 7:00pm-8:00pm

East Meets West – 2118 W. Lawrence Ave.

In our meditation group we learn to focus our attention on our breath.

In the beginning, the group is guided to relax the your body and let go of the thoughts from the day by focusing your attention on certain points of our bodies.  Then gently moving your breath in and out noticing when your mind takes over with thoughts and again coming back to the breath.

After sitting in silence for approximately 15-20 minutes the group chants the mantra Ohm (optional) 10-15 times and then we return back to the movement and awareness of our breath in silence.

By the end you will feel much lighter and free of any heaviness in your mind and body.

Meditation begins at 7:00pm so please arrive a few minutes early to stretch and find your seat so we can get started together.

There is lots of easy, free parking in the area.

How it Works

1. Meditation is an extension of relaxation to the mind. It builds on the practice of relaxation and its practice begins with relaxation.

2. After the body is relaxed, attention is rested on a single point.

3. When distracting thoughts enter the mind, they are observed but not engaged with or reacted to. This attitude is known as non-attachment.

4. Attention is consistently returned to the single point of focus.

“Participating in Tom’s meditation group has taken me from ‘Yeah, meditation is nice’ to something I need and value doing daily.”
